The Panchakanya Waterfall, popularly referred to as Roshi Jharana, is one of the closest destinations from Kathmandu.

Perfect for a Saturday trip, this waterfall is located in Kavre district and is truly a great spot for swimming enthusiasts.

Today, I’ll dive into the essential details about this tiny waterfall and guide you on planning your next weekend getaway here.

Is It Roshi or Panchakanya Waterfall?

Just like with the Mailung/Bhange Waterfall, we were initially confused between Roshi and Panchakanya.

Here’s the answer: the actual name of the waterfall is Panchakanya Jharana.

However, since it is located in Roshi Rural Municipality, the name ‘Roshi Jharana’ has become widely popular.

Reaching Panchakanya Waterfall

Let me share our story here. We originally planned to visit Tindhare Waterfall but ended up taking the wrong route.

That’s when we met an old uncle who suggested this waterfall, and as travel lovers, we couldn’t resist exploring it.

If you’re coming from Kathmandu, follow this route via your private vehicle:
Kathmandu – Bhaktapur Sallaghari – Palanse – Sangha – Banepa.

Once you reach the Banepa roundabout, take a right turn and reach Panauti Bus Park. From there, continue straight to Malpi and then to Roshi.

After proceeding on the Malpi road, you’ll spot a diversion board directing you to Roshi/Panchakanya Waterfall.

A helpful tip: Use Google Maps to avoid any confusion along the way.

Road Condition to Panchakanya Waterfall

I was heartbroken to learn that the recent Roshi River flood claimed the lives of 20 people and caused significant devastation in the area.

What’s even sadder is that we had visited the area just a week before this natural disaster.

Even before the flood, the road condition was poor upon reaching Roshi, and it’s likely even worse now. We hope the concerned authorities address this issue soon.

Since we recommend visiting this destination during the monsoon, be prepared for a muddy adventure if you’re traveling on a motorbike or scooter.

However, the off-road experience is relatively short, so there’s no need to worry too much.

Is Panchakanya Waterfall Worth the Hype?

As you approach the entrance of the waterfall, you’ll catch a glimpse of one of the Roshi River streams flowing from the Panchakanya Waterfall itself.

This is quite a stunning sight, and we couldn’t resist taking some pictures here, spending almost half an hour.

To reach the waterfall, you need to walk for about 5-10 minutes. It’s usually not crowded, even on weekends (unless you’re unlucky).

Why? Because the waterfall isn’t very large—it’s essentially a natural spring where you can swim and unwind from the heat.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t dive in due to the cold monsoon weather, and our primary plan was to visit Tindhare Waterfall, where we bathed later that same day.

So, is it worth the hype? Honestly, I wouldn’t say so, but it’s still a great spot to visit.

How much you enjoy it depends on you and your group. Have fun swimming and create your own memories.

I recommend visiting this spot and combining it with trips to Namobuddha and Tindhare Jharana on the same day. Trust me, it’s doable!

Expected Budget

The only costs involved in visiting Panchakanya Waterfall are fuel for your vehicle and expenses for snacks or lunch.

In our case, we didn’t spend a penny at Panchakanya/Roshi Waterfall—even the entry was free!

Since we didn’t dine at any restaurants, I can’t recommend any in this guide.

However, there is one popular restaurant nearby that offers a view of Panchakanya Jharana, perfect for taking pictures.

As far as I know, they also serve trout, so you might want to give that a try. If you do, let me know about your experience in the comments below.

Final Words

That’s all I have to share about Panchakanya Waterfall. It’s a short trip from Kathmandu and an ideal destination for a weekend getaway.

Now, share this article with your friends and start planning your visit during the next monsoon.

Happy traveling to Kavre!
