Nijgadh Viewtower: The Best Viewpoint in Bara District!

nijgadh viewtower

Nijgadh Viewtower, officially known as “View Tower Nijgadh”, is hands down one of the best places to visit in the Bara district.

For locals, it’s the perfect go-to spot for a short ride. And for travelers like us, it offers a stunning panoramic view of the region, one that feels completely different from the hilltop views we’re used to in other parts of Nepal.

There’s no entrance fee here. Just hop on your ride, follow the trail, hike up through the tiger-mouth entrance (if it’s open), and take in the peaceful scenery of the Central Terai region.

Don’t worry if you’ve got any confusion! This guide covers everything about Nijgadh’s viewpoint. Definitely scroll on and read till the end!

How to Reach Nijgadh Viewtower? Road Condition Exposed!

Whether you’re traveling by private vehicle or using local transportation like tuktuks or autos, getting to Nijgadh Viewtower is very doable.

Personally, we were on the way to Janakpur and wanted to stop by the hidden spots around Bara District. After a visit to Simara Park, we continued our journey towards Nijgadh and reached Batman Chowk. From there,

  • We took a left turn. It’s funny how travel does that to you. One moment, I was back home, and the next, I was riding through the beautiful village lanes of Nijgadh.
  • Make sure to stop at the Shree Krishna Pranami Temple. Its unique architecture caught us by surprise.

  • This spot is also locally known as Pranami Chowk. From here, take a left.
  • Continue forward and you’ll see the entrance gate with a large tiger face carved on it, directly opposite Shree Jankalyan Basic School.

Now here’s the twist: when we got there, the gate was locked. So, we had to ride our motorcycle uphill a bit further. And that’s when the road condition completely changed….

Honestly, the last 5-minute stretch reminded us of the bumpy outskirts of most hill stations in Kathmandu Valley.

Motorcycles can reach all the way up, but you have to be extremely cautious! The road was in poor condition and not maintained. For four-wheelers, it’s best to leave them at the base near the temple and walk.

Same goes for those taking local transport like autos, taxis, or tuktuks. Go as far as the road allows, and hike the rest of your way!

Things to Do in Nijgadh Viewtower

While our trip to Nijgadh was short, it gave me enough insight to suggest what travelers (whether you’re a local tourist or someone visiting from far) can actually do at and around the Nijgadh Viewtower.

Take in the Views of Bara District

Beautiful view from the tower

Well, this is exactly why we went!

We’re used to seeing the same old crowded Kathmandu valley from hilltops, but Nijgadh Viewtower gave us a whole new look into Nepal’s central Terai. We’re talking wide-open plains, which is a different kind of beauty altogether.

As tourists, we couldn’t figure out exactly how far the view stretched, but I’m quite certain you can see major parts of Bara, Parsa, and Rautahat districts from up there.

Plus, if you’re trying to escape the scorching Terai heat, the breeze up at the tower feels surprisingly refreshing. It’s a solid reason to visit if you’re anywhere around Madhesh Province.

Best Time: Sunset and Sunrise

We had reached Nijgadh Viewtower in the afternoon. That’s just how our travel schedule worked out.

But if you’re spending a few days around the Madhesh region, try visiting either early in the morning or late afternoon. I’m referring to the sunsets and sunrises.

Especially the sunsets, which in the Terai region has its own charm, and from the height of the view tower, it’s even better!

Go For Dry Picnic!

If you’re a local or visiting nearby, Nijgadh Viewtower can be a quick and chill picnic spot. Carry some dry snacks, sit down either at the base or on the tower itself, and soak in the peaceful vibe.

There’s no proper picnic ground, though. But if you’re not expecting much, just the view and a place to rest shall surely make you feel happy!

Take Blessings From Manakamana Temple

Don’t miss out here!

Before heading back, don’t forget to visit the Manakamana Temple located within the view tower premises. Step inside, light a diyo, and offer your prayers to Manakamana Mata

A little prayer for safe travels ahead is always worth it. And while you’re at it, maybe send some blessings our way, too?

Other Attractions Nearby

Nijgadh isn’t just about the view tower. The place has other hidden gems that often go unnoticed. Because let’s face it: most underrated places in Nepal don’t get the spotlight they deserve!

Now, I won’t oversell it. Even the view tower isn’t the most jaw-dropping destination in the world, but it is still a unique piece of our own country. And that’s what makes it special.

If you’ve come this far in the guide and are actually considering visiting, let me just say this: go for it, just like we did.

Though we were short on time while heading to Janakpur, next time I’d love to explore more of the Bara district.

According to Nijgadh Municipality, these are other places worth checking out nearby: Shahid Hira Lal Park, Mohori Park, Hari Danda, Shiva Satyeshwar Temple, Parbat Nath Temple, Krishna Temple, Ram Janaki Temple, Palyun Samteling Monastery, and Halkhoria Pond.

Final Words

There you go… a short but memorable trip to Nijgadh Viewtower!

Sure, the road conditions near the top made me a bit frustrated. But apart from that, it was a peaceful and refreshing stop worth our Madhesh Pradhesh detour.

Once you’re done visiting the tower, head back to the highway. If you’re planning to settle in for lunch/brunch/snacks, there are a few decent spots. I’ll be updating this post soon with the best restaurants around Nijgadh, so keep an eye out for that!
